We are excited to announce the launch of Dear Future’s 2025 Literary Competition, now welcoming entries from children in Uganda, Peru, Jordan, and Guatemala making this our most global contest yet.
This year’s theme is “A Letter to My Future Self”, where children are invited to imagine and write a genuine, original letter to who they will become. The challenge: express their hopes, dreams, and vision for the future in 500 words or less. The competition is divided into two language categories: Spanish and English ensuring children can write in the language they are most comfortable with.
Invitations have already gone out to our partner schools and NGOs in all four countries, and we can’t wait to receive a wave of heartfelt letters.

Building on Last Year’s Success
In 2024, nearly 100 children from around the world shared their voices in our competition under the theme “Why is education important to me?”
Each entry carried a unique perspective, filled with sincerity and the unshakable belief that education has the power to change lives. Choosing winners was no easy task, but in the end, we named a World Champion along with a first and second place winner from each country.
Last year’s World Champion, Jana Yaseen from Squash Dreamers in Jordan, captured our hearts with her inspiring reflection on how education gave her confidence, courage, and hope for the future. At just nine years old, Jana’s words reminded us why we do this work:
“Education isn’t just about filling our minds with information; it works on our personality, behavior, and way of thinking. … All the clear vision of life I have is because of education, my window to the outside world.”

Why It Matters
At Dear Future, we believe every child has a story worth telling. By opening the competition to children in remote regions of Uganda, Peru, Jordan, and Guatemala, we’re not only celebrating creativity and self-expression but also giving young voices a stage to inspire the world.
Every letter submitted is more than just words, it’s a reflection of resilience, imagination, and the future these children dream of building.
What’s Next
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be receiving entries, reading their powerful letters, and preparing to announce the winners. Stay tuned as we share highlights from the competition, excerpts from the most moving letters, and of course, the announcement of the 2025 Dear Future World Champion.
This competition is proof that no matter where a child lives, in a bustling city or a remote village, their dreams are powerful, their words are meaningful, and their future is worth investing in.
