Jana Fadi (Yaseen)
At Dear Future, we believe that education is one of the most powerful tools we can provide to children across the globe. It opens doors, creates opportunities, and ignites change. Every year, we invite young minds from around the world to share their thoughts on the importance of education through our Dear Future Literary Tournament, a contest designed to celebrate the voices of children who see education as a transformative force in their lives.
This year, we are thrilled to announce that our winning submission came from none other than Jana Fadi, a young student from Jordan! Jana’s heartfelt short essay captivated our judges with her insightful perspective on why education matters to her. With clarity and depth beyond her years, she shared her personal journey, illustrating the ways in which education has empowered her to grow, find confidence, and build resilience in a world full of challenges.
About Jana: A Story of Resilience and Growth
Jana is a fourth-grade student at Squash Dreamers, a U.S.-based nonprofit working in Jordan; they empower children from diverse backgrounds, including refugees, with the opportunity to learn and thrive. For Jana, education has been more than just a daily routine—it has been a source of strength, inspiration, and transformation. In her essay, she expressed how her early school years were marked by shyness and self-doubt. However, with the encouragement of her teachers, she began to flourish.
She recalls her journey from being the quiet girl in the corner to becoming a "bold and brave, happy girl" who would proudly sing national songs at school festivals. Through education, Jana not only gained knowledge but also developed the confidence to face life’s challenges head-on. She eloquently described how her studies in subjects like Arabic, English, math, and science expanded her understanding of the world and helped her engage in conversations with confidence and poise.
The Impact of Education on Jana’s Life
Jana’s story serves as a reminder that education is not just about filling minds with information; it is about shaping personalities, building resilience, and fostering empathy. In her essay, she shared how education taught her to deal with difficult situations with grace, from handling bullies to accepting people’s differences. She’s learned that while people are unique, we all share a common humanity. This wisdom, gained through her education, has provided her with a "clear vision of life" and made her stronger, kinder, and more understanding.
Why This Matters

Her journey is a testament to the power of education to change lives and empower young people to reach their fullest potential. Education: The Real Transformer
My name is Jana Fadi. I am nine years old and I’m in fourth grade at Nazzal Elementary Girls School. I think that education is very essential in our life
To me, education is that power which motivates me to become better and better, day after day.
I remember being very shy in grade one, but my teachers encouraged me in various ways; with their support, I was able to become a bold, brave, and happy girl, singing national songs at school festivals.
Education isn’t just about filling our minds with information; it works on our personality, behavior, and way of thinking.
My teachers have taught me about Arabic and English languages; also Islam, Sciences, Math, and Art. As a result, I’m now able to take part in various discussions with confidence thanks to the rich knowledge I was provided.
Before, I mostly interacted with my family members only, but education made me face new people, colleagues, and friends.
Before I hated that boy that whispered to the others about me, and I hated the other that bullied me many times and made me cry; thanks to my education they no longer affect me negatively. I became more reasonable in dealing with situations.
I now know that people are different, and I know that we have to respect all the individual differences. At the same time, we should know how to defend ourselves and how to be strong. We are all humans. We are all special in one way or another and we all make mistakes.
All the clear vision of life I have is because of education, my window to the outside world.
Jana.
