Introduction of Rehab Centre in Glenview Area

In Glenview, drug and substance abuse is a big problem. Many youths are taking drugs. Drugs taken include mutoriro, mbanje and bronco.

This problem breaks my heart because I see boys and girls dropping out of school stealing and becoming fights in the streets. Last month my neighbour who was very good at football dropped out of school because of drugs. This pained me a lot. Some youths are influenced by friends. Drug and substance abuse has serious effects on health. It can damage the brain, lungs and liver. It also affects education. Learners who abuses drugs often lose interest in their studies. They may miss lessons. This is not the future we want.

My dream for the future is to see Glenview becoming a drug-free community. I dream for a big rehab centre built near Glenview 3 shopping centre. In my dream, this centre is not a prison, but a home for hope. It has kind doctors, counsellors and a football pitch. Youths who were once addicted will learn skills like carpentry. They will be healed and return to their families. I see a future where Glenview is known for talented and hardworking youths. It will also becomes a clean and peaceful area again.

If I could make things, I would start by asking our local leaders, church and school to donate land for the centre. I would ask well-wishers and NGOs to help to build it. At the centre, there would be free counselling and skills training. I would also create awareness campaigns in schools, where recovered youths share their stories to warn others. We will form youth clubs for soccer, netball and music to keep us busy and away from drugs.

It will not only save lives but also save our future. It is the change I wish to see with all my heart. An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.
