Drug and substance abuse is becoming a serious problem, especially among youths. If wishes were horses beggars would ride, I would like our community to be a drug free environment. A rehabilitation centre being introduced in Glen View would bring a great change in our community. If we neglect the problem may grow like a small fire becoming a big bush fire.
Drugs are leading to family disintegration. Youths are taking drugs due to peer pressure, while others due to poverty. Substances such as mbanje, glue, alcohol, cough mixtures and other harmful drugs are being taken by youths. At first young person may think that taking drugs is fun, but later it becomes a serious addiction. Like a thief, drug abuse can slowly steal a person’s health, education, family and future.
Drugs are also affect economic growth of Zimbabwe. As youths are the future workers and leaders of tomorrow, if our youths are health and educated the country can grow like a strong tree with many branches.
The rehabilitation centre would play an important role. People who are already addicted could recieve counselling, medical help and guidance. They could learn skill that would help them to have or to start a new life. Also their future may become brighter as a new penny.
I have many dreams for the future. I dream to see young people going to school and becoming successfully. I dream of seeing youths starting businesses, getting good jobs and helping their families. I also dream for a community where children can play without being influenced by drugs. These dreams can become a reality if we start helping young people today.
So parents, teachers, churches, police officers and community leaders should work together to educate youths. We should encourage youths to talk about their problems instead of turning to drugs. We should also teach them that asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
If my dream comes true I will be happy as a child. As my community starts to develop as a blooming flower. Let us save our youths tomorrow so that they can build a stronger Zimbabwe future.
