Dear Future Me,

Hello, Madam Leader! That’s what I hope they call you now. I am still a small girl in school, but I always imagine myself holding a microphone and speaking to crowds. I want to be a politician, not the bad kind, but the good one who tells the truth and helps people.

Do you still care about poor families like I do now? I hope you have built clean water places and schools. I hope children don’t have to walk long distances like I do.

Some people may not agree with your ideas. Some might shout at you. But don’t be scared. Remember why you started: to make Uganda a better place for everyone.

Don’t forget to smile, greet the old mamas in the village, and hug the children. Stay kind, stay smart, and always say the truth.

From the dreaming Jackline,
Your younger self.
