Dear future me,

I will not ask you about where you are, and how things are going with you because I exactly know your place now, and I am sure you are doing very well. Do you remember the nights we spent in our tent, cold and scared? Do you remember the days we went out to afford food for our aging parents to eat while rockets were bombing around? It was horrifying, but you remained bold and calm as always. I can’t deny you’ve been through heavy days, but whenever you remembered the brighter future waiting for you, you returned stronger and stronger. You were tired but never weak. You were sad but never desperate. Do you remember when we were praying all night long, then a bomb destroyed our house? You felt a little pain before you whispered Al-Shahada. It must have been a tough shock, but it’s over now. You are in a safe, quiet place. No wars, no hunger and no worries. You are my lovely, free martyr. You won, dear me. You are healed. Rest in peace. If you have the chance to read this, be sure that I always believed in you, and I always was sure that this world is not meant for you. This cruel world doesn’t fit a beautiful spirit like yours. Enjoy Allah’s gift and send my wishes and prayers to all the martyrs from our relatives and friends in heaven.

With love,
Jana
